Black Narcissus 0.5 is an interactive, site-specific new media project, one in a series of ongoing research projects dealing with our digital identity and its relationship with the physical environment.

According to Narcissus’ story, as recounted in Greek mythology, the hunter was punished for his arrogance and cursed: He was made to fall in love with his own reflection as seen in a pond, staring at it until his demise.

Studies of offline behavior have taught us that human faces are powerful channels of nonverbal communication. The deep obsession people have with their physical representation as it is translated into the digital world is at the center of this project’s experience.

Visitors are invited to play with their live photographed faces, filtered and projected onto a number of focal points in the space.
