The Sinai Peninsula is a popular tourist destination, annually attracting thousands of Israeli tourists who yearn for the desert’s tranquility. At the same time, for years now, the Israeli government has been issuing official travel warnings that caution against vacationing in the area due to the risk of potential terror attacks. A series of such tragic attacks that took place during the previous decade marked with a bitter note the end of a short peak in tourism in the area, leaving the desert spot full of abandoned and partially-constructed luxury hotels.

These buildings, decorated with Islamic ornaments as well as traditional domes and arches, stand detached from the picturesque scenery. They reflect the story of an undeveloped place and unfulfilled dreams of prosperity. A borderland between two countries with a history of war.

The project begins by wandering behind the scenes of the oriental performance created primarily for Israeli tourists.

Placed at the intersection between fear and enchantment, these deserted buildings become fantastic and supernatural temples of luxury and amusement through the artists’ use of digital collages.
