Could one create a game consisting of a clear, linear stream of events without knowing in advance what decisions the players will make? Does the gameplay suffer when it is framed by a set narrative?
Shift is an experimental game platform that engages with the themes of storytelling and interactive experiences. Movement in Shift is a free stroll, whereby the players are incapable of affecting the contents they encounter. The only influence players do have is on the order in which they are exposed to the various events. Thus, as they wander, the players are encouraged to seek out the meaning of events, mix narrative sequences together, or simply stroll aimlessly.
