A hybrid made of silicone, composed of sensory organ castings: Nose, ear, tongue, and fingers.
This project was designed in a nod to the Sensory Homunculus, a creature that represents the organs of the body involved in the processing of sensory input according to the field of modern neuroscience.
The hybrid can be seen through a distorted lens, which complements the fifth sense – vision. The creature, built as a puppet, is powered by a motor that deceptively appears to be breathing life into it.
In this work, the artist explores sensory overflow, as the body engaging with her creation no longer buffers the different sensory receptors.
