Tarver’s Ring displays a century-old souvenir, sold at the end of one of the freak shows performed in the U.S. between 1909-1935. The large scale of the ring – which belonged to the show’s star, James Grover Tarver (also known by the stage name of “The Texas Giant”) – is a testimony revealing how society’s outcasts were portrayed.

The original ring, digitized and 3-D printed in plastic, is exhibited next to a finger diameter measuring tool used by jewelers. The placement of Tarver’s Ring at the center of a spectrum of scales encourages viewers to reconsider the range of “normality” and look at what may lie beyond it.
