Studio ALIAH is a popup workshop led by a cooperative of designers and artists who will work throughout the week at Hansen House: Dissembling, unraveling, sewing and creating a unique piece from textile waste. As they breathe new life into that which has been discarded, the collective members will unveil the process in which a clothing is evolved into a finished product.
The use of materials that have seemingly reached the end of their lifespan, the lack of an obvious outcome to the process and the presence of visitors are all the elements at the heart of this project: A live performance that renders the hidden manufacturing procedure, usually carried out by anonymous hands, into an exposed process that receives the spotlight.
The concoction of identities of those participating in the collective, their cooperation and the fact that the different materials are passed on among them all contribute to create a new kind of tapestry of clothing that are developed out of different perspectives on manufacturing, design and aesthetics. The collective, made up of local creators, will be joined by an international designer who creates and works in Slovakia. The results of this unique work process will be presented in a circus-like fashion show during Design Week’s closing event. The fashion show and its various mechanism, much like the production process itself, will be exposed to the public.
